Illustration Friday~Blur

Initially, I was hoping for trees through a rainy window, then I thought of trees through teary eyes. This is definitely an experiment with acrylics. It's done on 'substantial' paper for acrylic. I have been drawing so much lately that coming back to painting feels immature, new, adolescent...

ooh! I really like this one! It doesn't look immature:) But I like what you've written about that "adolescent" feeling. I'm a weirdo because I always try to cultivate that feeling in my own process. Whenever I'm feeling too comfortable or certain about my work it makes me (paradoxically) uncomfortable, and I find ways to trick myself so that I can get to that feeling of awkwardness. It keeps me more engaged with the work when I'm coming from that place. My favorite college professor used to say that going back to an old process or medium always made her feel like she was "painting with her feet."

I love experimental work. It's such a weird feeling when one's art work was intended for something else, but then becomes something else...just as wonderful. Very good perception and story behind your painting. Do keep up the good work! Yes, Iron giant is an amazing animated film....do check out the blog if you'd like to submit your rendition of iron giant...they are currently accepting submissions (sketch or finished pieces): http://irongiantproject.blogspot.com/2009/11/blog-must-go-on.html
